I’m a huge fan of Bar Liberty in Melbourne and it was there that I first came across Pennyweight Wines Sherry (they actually make a unique blend for the restaurant).
I recently visited the winery and couldn’t choose between their Fino and Amontillado sherries, so I bought both! Gin and sherry are such a great pairing that I’ve been trying out a few cocktails.
This Mary Astor cocktail was created by Church Cummings at the Ace Hotel, New Orleans. It’s a riff on a gin sour using sloe gin and Amontillado sherry which adds weight and texture.

Ingredients
30ml London Dry gin (I used Melbourne Gin Company Single Shot gin)
30ml Amontillado sherry
15ml Sloe gin (I used McHenry Distillery‘s)
22ml fresh lemon juice
7ml simple syrup
Lemon peel for garnish
How to make a Mary Astor cocktail

Shake all the ingredients together until chilled. Double strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the lemon peel.
