Audrey Saunders, known as the Libation Goddess, created the Gin Gin Mule at her famous Pegu Club in New York. It’s based on the traditional Buck or Mule cocktails that use ginger ale or ginger beer and citrus mixed with a spirit base.
Ginger, mint and lime juice combine perfectly with the botanicals found in gin, to create a great summer cooler.
Audrey made her own ginger beer, (there is an ace recipe here if you are so inclined) but I’ve used Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, and it tastes pretty good. (I think ginger beer is better than ginger ale as it gives more of a bite, but experiment!)
Ingredients
10 mint leaves (plus a sprig for garnish)
15ml simple syrup (omit if using fruit gin)
15ml freshly squeezed lime juice (plus a lime wedge for garnish)
45ml gin (I used Stone Pine Dry Gin)
30ml chilled Fever-tree Ginger Beer
Method
Muddle the mint leaves with the simple syrup and lime juice in the bottom of a shaker.
Add the gin, fill the shaker with ice and shake gently until chilled.
Strain into an ice-filled glass, add the ginger beer and give it a stir.
Garnish with a spring of mint and a wedge of lime.
Enjoy!
