The story behind the gin is the stuff of legend. “One man’s quest…” and all that. Love, Obsession and a certain degree of madness all go into the history of Martin Miller’s Gin.
The gin is distilled in England, but then sent to Iceland where it is blended with pure Icelandic spring water. (The producers figured that as all gin is at least 50% water you may as well use the best.)
It’s essentially a London Dry gin, but can’t be named as such because of the tradition-breaking way the gin is produced. The juniper distillation is added later to the citrus distillation (bitter orange, lemon, lime) with cucumber essence added later.
It’s initially quite citrussy, then you get the delicious juniper flavour. This gin has a surprisingly smooth finish and is definitely worthy of the many accolades it has garnered over the years.
