I’ve seen the 20th Century cocktail on a few menus and always thought it was a relatively new cocktail. It was actually created in 1937 in honour of a train (the Twentieth Century) that ran between Manhattan and Chicago between 1902 and 1967.
The crème de cacao isn’t an obvious companion for the refreshing combination of gin, lemon juice and Lillet Blanc, but OH MY GOODNESS it works.
Ingredients for the 20th Century Cocktail
45ml gin (I used Portobello)
20ml Lillet Blanc
15ml crème de cacao
15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
a twist of lemon for garnish
Method
Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker, add ice and shake until chilled, Strain into a chilled glass and add a twist of lemon for garnish. Enjoy!
