Tasmanian Distillery Tour

For this year’s Tasmanian Distillery tour, you’ll be visiting not one, not two, but THREE different distilleries over the day, enjoying tasters and gin and tonics at each one, before a special evening at Shene Distillery.

Spring Bay Distillery

First stop is Spring Bay Distillery where a shared love of whisky and gin lead husband and wife team, Suzy and Cam to build their own distillery.

This beautiful beach is only 550m from the distillery!

We’ll enjoy a tour of the distillery, learn about Spring Bay gin and enjoy a light lunch before departing for:

Killara Distillery

We’ll be meeting second generation distiller Kristy Booth-Lark (her dad is Bill, the renowned Godfather of Australian Distilling) and enjoying a Apothecary Gin and Tonic while we take a tour of the distillery. Kristy has been distilling since she was 17 and has a wealth of knowledge to share!

We’ll then be heading off to our final destination:

Shene Estate and Distillery

Shene Estate is the home of Poltergeist gin and during your tour you’ll certainly be hearing lots about the intriguing history that lead the team to give their gin such a ghostly name.

We’ll enjoy a tour, guided tasting and have time to unwind before enjoying a rustic, outdoor barbecue style meal together, with a few more tipples of course!

Gin Queen on Tour!

Have you always wanted to visit a gin distillery? Put off by having to drive?

Then have I got the perfect solution for you…Announcing GIN QUEEN ON TOUR 2016!

I adore our award-winning Australian gin distillers and am constantly telling people to get out and see the distilleries first hand, but it isn’t always that simple. So I’ve put together 3 different tours to 3 different distilleries where you can find out first hand the work that goes into each gin, including an EXCLUSIVE visit to a distillery that doesn’t currently open to the public.

We’ll be travelling together on our private gin bus that will collect you from Federation Square in Melbourne and whisk you to the distillery. There, you’ll meet the distiller, have a G&T, learn about (and sample!) their fantastic gin(s), and enjoy a light lunch before the gin bus departs.

But wait there’s more!

Instead of you ending your tour back at Federation Square, we’ll be alighting at Gin Palace where Manager, Trish and her capable team will serve a mini martini made with the gin of the day. The perfect way to round off our gin tour!

What’s included?

  • Fully escorted tour hosted by Caroline Childerley, The Gin Queen!
  • Transport from Federation Square to the distillery and then returning to Gin Palace
  • Meet the distiller
  • Gin tasters
  • G&T at the distillery
  • Light lunch (limited dietary options available)
  • Mini martini at the Gin Palace

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF AUSSIE GIN

From a country best known for it’s passion for wine, whisky and rum, it’s come as a surprise to the world that Aussies are making bloody good gin. Like really bloody good. So good that it’s winning accolades around the world and taking centre stage in our best bars. This class will take you on a journey through the history of distilling in Australia (including how the godfather of Australian distilling went to Parliament to make it happen), the incredible people who are behind these great drinks, how gin is made, what to buy and how to drink it. We’ll get to explore some of the local botanicals which set Aussie Gins apart, while tasting & talking about eight of the best local Gin’s (plus a few tonics) in existence. Oh, and there’ll be cheese too. Sorry England – better luck next time.

“I’d like to thank you for your help in making the welcome party for SOPAC 2016 such a great success. It was wonderful to have you there and engage the guests with your knowledge, expertise and passion for gin. There’s no doubt that you converted many from thinking that gin is purely an ingredient in a gin & tonic, to thinking of it as a delicious spirit in its own right! It was an enjoyable, and unusual activity for the guests and I have a feeling that you’ll be contacted by many there for some other events.” P. Wheat, Special Events Coordinator.
