The Botanist Gin is produced in the wild terrain of the Hebrides off the coast of Scotland by Jim McEwan at the progressive Bruichladdich distillery.
The distillery prides itself in having full-time botanical scientists who forage locally for the 22, yes, I said 22, ingredients for this gin. You can find the full list here.
It’s distilled in small batches over 17 hours in a beaten up copper still called ‘Old Betty” by it’s distillers.
The Botanist gin is incredibly complex. 22 ingredients will do that. It’s has a bright aroma and is fresh and citrus on the tongue, but finishing on warmer notes. I’d describe it as herbaceous. It’s flavour shines brightest in a gin and tonic but it also makes a stand out martini!
