In spite of the winter equinox, spring is still a long way off and the Melbourne winter is nipping away at me, so my mind turns once again to warm gin cocktails. Chatting with my buddy Hayden (aka the Skinny Bartender) he suggested this Hot Milk Gin Punch.
Containing milk, gin, and my favourite liqueur, Saint Germain, this resembles a light egg nog cocktail and is sure to warm your cockles.
Ingredients
30ml Gin (I used Ferdinand’s Saar Dry Gin)
10ml Saint Germain Liqueur
50-60ml full cream milk
demerara sugar to garnish
Method
Now, I had a few little issues with curdling when I first started putting this together. It was probably a combination of over-heating the milk and adding to cold liquid. After trying various methods this seemed to work the best:
1. Add gin and Saint Germain to heat-resistant glasses
2. Slowly add the cold milk to the gin and Saint Germain, stirring as you go
3. Warm half the milk until just boiling
4. Slowly top up the glass with the warm milk, aerating it to give a little foam on the top
5. Sprinkle with some brown sugar (not too much or you’ll make it too sweet!)
Enjoy!
