The Twelfth Day of Gin-Mas is all about NAUGHT!
It’s been quite the journey for the Naught gin team. Distiller Chris Cameron and his business partner Marcus Hansen were all set to launch Naught gin and open the distillery in February 2020. Best laid plans and all that.
Not to be deterred they launched their gin anyway and waiting patiently for restrictions to lift before they opened their stunning bar and distillery.
Their hard work and resilience was rewarded last week when Chris and Marcus picked up two coveted trophies at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards. Naught gin was awarded Champion New World/Contemporary gin also Champion Victorian gin!
This recognition is well deserved and since the launch, Chris has produced two additions to the range.
Naught Australian Dry gin
Naught gin is stunning in its simplicity. Juniper, citrus, toasted wattle seed and star anise are combined to create this elegant Australian Dry gin. Flavours of orange citrus are balanced with the sweetness and warmth of star anise, while toasted wattleseed brings depth and a pleasing mouthfeel.
It’s fantastic in a Southside (as above)or pair it with Fever-Tree’s Spiced Orange Ginger Ale as it elevates the citrus and star anise to new heights. It’s also brilliant in a Negroni!
One of my Top 10 Australian gins of 2020.
Naught Sangiovese gin
Created by infusing premium sangiovese grapes with Naught Australian Dry Gin, Naught Sangiovese Gin is gently filtered with no additives to produce a naturally bright cerise colour and flavour in bottle.
The lively aromas, vibrant red fruits and seductive spices deliver a beautiful synergy of sweet and savoury. At 37.5% it stands up well in cocktails, like the sour above.
Only 1000 bottles were made for the 2021 vintage and is now sold out (although you might find a bottle at The Ginporium), but it proved so popular that they are working on next year’s vintage already!
Naught Overproof gin
This gin is not to be taken lightly with an ABV of 57.4%. The initial taste is of zesty citrus and sweet ripe juniper but it stretches out over the palate with a beautiful texture, hints of clove and apple, the slight sweet zest of pink grapefruit, spice of wattle seed and the velvety touch of macadamia in the finish.
