On the Second Day of Gin-Mas 2019 my Gin Queen gave to me Ambleside Distillers gin!
The family owned distillery opened just outside Hahndorf in South Australia, almost exactly two years ago to the day, and their gins have been winning hearts (and medals) ever since.
Ambleside Distillers produce three distinct gins, each recipe created by a different member of the family. Matt made Big Dry Gin (my personal favourite), Steve came up with Small Acre and Trudy, thought up No.8 Botanical gin.
Big Dry gin as the name suggests is, dry and peppery but not too spicy. There are notes of rosemary and thyme, but what sets this gin apart is the subtle use of jalapeno peppers. It’s an intense gin, that makes a cracking martini.
Small Acre gin might have small on the label, but don’t be fooled it has a big flavour. There are twelve botanicals, some from the distillery garden, rhubarb, bay leaf, apple and cloves.
No. 8 Botanical gin showcases the zesty citrus flavour of South Australia’s organic Riverland oranges. The citrus notes are complemented by the distinct flavour of star anise and coriander seed. This gin is soft and smooth on the palette.
For the Second Day of Gin-Mas, you have a chance of winning a bottle of Big Dry Gin OR* No.8 Botanical Gin.
