With one day to go until I officially begin preparations for Christmas 2014, I thought I’d put together a little list of Christmas gifts for gin lovers. Well, if I’m honest this post is just a massive hint to my husband (at least some of the items), but hopefully this will be useful to you.
BARWARE
Usage Heavyweight Cobbler Shaker
I’ve been wanting a new shaker for a while. Mine is a bit cheap and flimsy, but worst of all leaky. This cobbler style is a beauty. Easy to hold and a nice weight. $49.95 from Cocktail Kingdom.
Yarai Mixing Glass
This is probably my most used item at home as I need it for Negroni and martini. Available from Cocktail Kingdom $29.95AUD for 500ml, or $34.95AUD for 675ml (pictured)
Square Ice Cube Tray
Made from food-quality rubber, this makes jumbo 2.5″ square cubes! Available from Cocktail Kingdom $8.95AUD.
GLASSWARE
I love checking out op-shops for glass bargains, but sometimes you just want something really special. These Waterford Crystal Champagne Saucers have been on my wish list for a while, but at $199.99AUD a pair, they might remain there! Available from David Jones.
GIN
Antique Beefeater Gin with pouring cradle
Feeling flush? How about this 1 gallon bottle of Beefeater Gin from 1970s? At $827.54, you might have to win the lotto first!
It’s worth noting that spirits don’t age in the bottle like wine does, so this gin won’t necessarily taste any different or better, but it is a fabulous collector’s item. Available from Masters of Malt.
Sipsmith VJOP (Very Junipery Over Proof)
You know that I am a huge fan of Sipsmith gins, but this is extra special and is packed full of juniper flavour. I’ll be reviewing this in detail later in the week, but it is a very fine gin indeed. Usually available from Nicks.
White Possum Australian spirits, gin and liqueur subscriptions
A rather lovely gift for someone who has everything. White Possum is a subscription service for drink lovers featuring Australian products. Choose from monthly, quarterly or on demand deliveries and from whisky, gin, vodka, liqueurs or a random box as a surprise. From $39AUD from White Possum.
Other lovely things
Nick Barclay Print
Nick is a talented graphic designer from Sydney. I love the simplicity of his work and how he’s captured the drinks perfectly! Negroni is my favourite. From $30AUD direct from Nick’s store.
PDT Cocktail Book
PDT stands for Please Don’t Tell and is a New York institution famed for the secret method of gaining entry to the bar, but also for the quality of its drinks. On the “Bar Bucket List”, I’ll make do with their cocktail book for now! Available from Only Bitters $26.95AUD
Diptyque Genévrier Candle
For those evenings when you can’t drink, a scented candle to remind you of gin! This is a rare find these days, so you might have to try to have it shipped from the US.
So there we have it. Hopefully my friends and family have taken note of the things I need! Please note, I’ve selected things I love, or would like to receive and haven’t been paid to say nice things.
